The Cabrini College trip to Guatemala lays the groundwork for future international study trips for students in the Justice Matters curriculum. Students, faculty, and staff were able to witness the "Power of Partnerships."
In February 2009, the new college president, Dr. Marie Angelella George, five students, two professors, two staff members, and one alumnus travelled to Guatemala to explore the ways in which the college's two international partners worked with Guatemalan communities to promote "integral human development."
Cabrini College was founded by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart (the Cabrini Sisters), our primary partner. In 2005 Cabrini College signed a partnership agreement with Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic community.
In addition, we visited a community, San Lucas Toliman, that has worked in partnership for many years with the Catholic diocese of New Ulm, Minn.
We were able to witness how the three examples of partnerships--each differing in scope and methods--nevertheless shared remarkably similar goals and vision.
The students documented what they learned to provide the college with their understanding of the "Power of Partnerships" that is an essential component of the unique core curriculum of Cabrini College.
