Science Education: Pre-Occupational Therapy Program

Beginning January 2007, post-baccalaureate degree entry became a requirement for accredited occupational therapy programs nationwide. Therefore, there are now accredited baccalaureate programs in occupational therapy.

Students planning to complete their baccalaureate degree will enter occupational therapy graduate programs as an entry-level master's degree (M.S.O.T.) or an entry-level doctoral degree (D.O.T.) in occupational therapy depending on the particular program that they are interested in. Students must complete their baccalaureate degree in a discipline other than occupational therapy and prerequisite coursework before being accepted into M.S.O.T. or D.O.T. graduate programs.

Students may select from a variety of majors at Cabrini College, but must complete the prerequisite courses specified by the graduate program. Generally the prerequisites include an overall minimum GPA of 2.8 with a GPA in prerequisite courses of 3.0, completion of two semesters of natural sciences (Human Anatomy and Physiology I/II is preferred, but coursework in biology, chemistry or physics also may be accepted), two courses in social sciences, developmental psychology, abnormal psychology or personality theories, statistics (social science- based is preferred), and two courses in English (two composition courses or one composition and one literature course). Other eligibility criteria may include GRE, letters of recommendation, and interview.

Students must inquire about the specific requirements for the program they are interested in to ensure that they fulfill the criteria for admission into the M.S.O.T. or D.O.T. programs. Questions about the pre-occupational therapy program should be directed to Dr. Anne Coleman.

There is an affiliation, not a direct transfer, with Thomas Jefferson University.
