Living and Learning Communities (LLC) are small groups of students who live in the same residence hall and enroll in the same section of several courses that are linked to a specific thematic culture. The community has direct access to faculty members who act as liasons for the LLC. Students also have the advantage of participating in a variety of co-curricular experiences taking place both in and outside of the residence hall.
Living and Learning Communities benefit students by assisting first-year students with their transition to college and offering a unique opportunity to live and take classes with a small group of students who share similar interests.
Students make connections with peers, faculty, staff, the campus community, and involvement opportunities, and studies show that students participating in Living and Learning Communities achieve higher GPAs and are more engaged in the learning process.
Each Learning Community also assigns and houses an upper-class student who serves as a "Master Learner," providing review sessions and tutoring for specific classes, as well as attending co-curricular programming that fulfills the thematic culture of the community.
