Phil Martelli, head coach of St. Joseph's University's Men's Basketball Team and community leader, delivered the Commencement address to 430 graduates during Cabrini's 46th Commencement. Martelli, who also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in recognition of his extraordinary career and service to the community, told the graduates they should embrace a leadership role by becoming coaches. "No matter where life takes you, you will be on a team, whether it be in your family, business, church or charitable endeavors," Martelli said. "Every team needs a coach, and each of you with your Cabrini education as your foundation is prepared to be the head coach." Martelli also pointed to his sister and Cabrini alumna Lisa Jane (Martelli) Haney '91 as someone who received the skills and education at Cabrini to succeed both personally and professionally. "With Lisa's growth as my proof, I will state that you have been given...the proper value foundation by those seated there and there," he said, pointing at the faculty. Commencement also included the presentation of the Mother Ursula Award to Jacquelyn Flick, and the posthumous awarding of a Bachelor of Arts degree to Jaclyn Freese, which her brother David accepted. Flick received the Mother Ursula Award for best fulfilling the ideals of the College through academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, leadership, and service to classmates and the College.
