In the beginning of the semester, the Com 101 instructor will ask you to choose one area -- newspaper, video, or radio. In the third week of the semester, representatives from the three areas will come to class to introduce themselves, and bring their groups of students to see the facilities and explain procedures and timelines for future sessions. Each of the three areas will announce a deadline for students to start the first hands-on session.
- Reporter for the newspaper, Loquitur. (Note: if you are already taking COM 250, you have to sign up for another option.) You will write approximately two stories for publication. Contact: Shannon Keough (Shannon.Keough@gmail.com) in the Newsroom (FH 264) . She will have an instructional meeting and assign you your first story. You will meet with her with a draft of each story and when you hand in each story. After you hand the first story in, you will get your second assignment.
- Training for the radio station, WYBF. (Note: if you are already taking COM 290 Radio Broadcasting, you have to sign up for another option.) You will undergo a training program, leading up to a test certifying you as ready for work on the station. You will be assigned to one of these time slots and will need to attend each week for 4 weeks. Training will be in (FH 258). .

- Video Production Assistant. (Note: if you are already taking Com 270, you have to sign up for another option.) Students interested in video production can help advanced production students with video projects. Contact: Kara Schneider schneiderkara@gmail.com. Training will be in FH 253, the Video Studio.
