Walk-in Services
Counseling services are offered primarily by appointment only. Due to the high demand on our services, unfortunately we are unable to see most students on the same day they contact us. However, walk-in times are available for emergencies, Monday through Friday, between noon and 1:00 p.m. This initial consultation is most often limited to a brief meeting (10-15 minutes) with one of our counselors to assess your needs. The counselor will then set up a subsequent appointment as needed. If you are having an emergency, do not hesitate to contact us.
Confidentiality
The Counseling and Psychological Services Staff adhere to professional, legal, and ethical guidelines set forth by the American Psychological Association, the National Association of Social Workers, and Pennsylvania State Law. In doing so, the Office maintains confidential records of all counseling. This means that information about a student's contact with the office is not released to any other office or individual without a student's written permission and signature.
There are exceptions to confidentiality. Counselors are mandated to report certain information, which includes possible harm to the client or another person, cases of child abuse, or in the event of a court order. While these situations can happen, they are rare. It is important to remember that a counselor’s primary goal is to provide a safe environment where students feel comfortable to talk about personal concerns.
