New Student Orientation 2023

Welcome to Cabrini!

New Student Orientation (NSO) is a program for new students to become familiar with campus, gear up for academic success, and learn about campus life. First Year Students are guided through the Orientation program by faculty, staff, and Orientation Leaders (OLs). OLs are returning students volunteering their time to help new students get connected to each other and ready for their first day of classes.

NSO for this year’s first year students will be held August 25-27, 2023.

On Friday, August 25, Residential students will schedule Move-In times for the morning hours and are required to attend Orientation from 1 to 6:30pm. Commuter students are required to attend Orientation from 11am to 5:15pm. Find more information about Move-In here.

On Saturday, August 26, all new students are required to attend Orientation sessions from 10am to 4:30pm.

Optional activities will be held in the evenings on August 25 and 26, and all day on Sunday, August 27.

Below is the 2023 New Student Orientation schedule. The Orientation planning team does not anticipate many changes to this schedule, so please familiarize yourself with the weekend sessions and events! Cabrini Legacy Q & A Session	Iadarola Lecture Hall	10-11am	Still have questions about transitioning to your new institution after Cabrini? Learn about our partner institutions and the opportunities and benefits of continuing your education with one of these universities! Lawn Games	The Commons (rain location: The Grill)	11am-12:45pm	Got some free time before Matriculation? Come hang out with Orientation Leaders and play some games!

Commuter Student Check-In^	The Grill, Widener Center	11-11:30am	Let us know you’re here, Cabrini commuters! You will receive your Welcome Bag, Cabrini ID card, and other fun swag!
Commuter Student Welcome^	Widener Lecture Hall	11:30am-12:45pm	Learn about campus resources and activities just for Commuters. Lunch is provided, parents and guests are welcome to attend.
Matriculation*	Grace Hall Atrium	1-2pm	Cabrini President, Deans, and other staff welcome you to Cabrini University! Please note: After Matriculation, parents and guests of our new students will have to say goodbye!
Class Photo*	Grace Hall Entrance	2-2:30pm	Create a great memory with your entire class on the first day of school!
Advisor Meeting*	Classroom listed on name tag	2:30-3:15pm	Meet your academic advisor and learn about what to expect during your first semester of classes.
Snack Break*	Dixon Center Patio (rain location: Dixon Lobby)	3:15-3:45pm	Take a quick break before the next session!
Playfair: The Ultimate Ice Breaker*	Dixon Center Gym	3:45-5:15pm	Have a blast at “The Ultimate Ice Breaker” — a favorite activity at colleges nationwide!
Residence Hall Meeting+	Locations provided by RA	5:30-6:30pm	Meet with your RA and floormates to review Residence Hall policies.
Commuter Mixer	Founder’s Lobby	5:30-6:30pm	You can escape campus, but can you escape the room? Mingle with other commuter students, enjoy snacks, and play escape room board games. All participants are entered into a raffle for a Cabrini Swag Basket with an Echo dot!
Block Party	The Commons (rain location: Dixon Center)	6:30-9pm	Your “Welcome to Cabrini” Block Party! Backyard Cookout served 6:30-7:30pm, then stick around for music, inflatables, lawn games, and more! All attendees will be entered into a raffle to win some amazing gift baskets! Note: Cavs Corner will be closed for dinner this evening. Cookout is free for all first-year students.
The Cabrini Bookstore (1^st Floor, Widener Center) will be open from 10am to 3pm.

Brunch/ College Transition 101*	Various, OL will provide instructions	11:30-12:55pm	Enjoy Brunch in Cavs Corner with your Orientation Group and learn from the pros (aka returning students) on how to handle the transition from High School to College. Groups will rotate halfway through. *First year students with meal plans will use their card swipe for Brunch. Commuter students will be given vouchers.
Maximize Your Buzz*	Grace Hall Atrium	1:15-2:30pm	The end of boring alcohol programs and lectures is here. This is serious comedy. www.collegiate-empowerment.org/buzz
Big Prize Break*	Grace Hall Atrium	2:30-3pm	Take a break, have a snack and be entered to win some BIG prizes! We’ve got a 32“ TV, AirPods, a Fire TV Cube, and a $100 Campus Store gift card ready to raffle off!

Dear Future Self*	Grace Hall Atrium	4:15-5pm	Tell a future version of yourself all your hopes and fears. You’ll schedule an email to get this letter sent back to you!

Cav Kickback	Dixon Center	6:30-9:30pm	Come hang out and enjoy different activities all over Dixon Center! Arcade games, mini-golf, karaoke, dorm crafts and a POOL PARTY! Raffles held at 9:15pm for gift cards, prize baskets, and Cabrini swag. *Swimsuits required if you plan to swim in the pool!
Movie Night	Widener Lecture Hall	7:30-9pm	Super Mario Bros (2023) First 40 people get a Super Mario Keychain! Stay until the end for a chance to win a Super Mario Bros Lego set!

Be-Lounge Brunch (RSVP required)	Grace Hall Atrium	11am-12:30pm	The Office of DEI and Belonging (ODEIB) welcomes first-year BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other students who have underrepresented identities to meet, break bread, and build connections early in the school year to increase support. Interfaith Praise and Worship	The Commons (rain location: Chapel)	12:30-2pm	Join Campus Ministry for this event designed for students of all faiths and spiritual traditions to be in community together!

Mass	Bruckmann Memorial Chapel	2-3pm	Catholic Service held in Bruckmann Memorial Chapel of Saint Joseph.
College Life 101	Grace Hall	3:30-5:30pm	Before you have your first COL 101 course in a classroom this week, stop by these sessions to get an idea of what your life will be like this year at Cabrini! All sessions will held at the same time — come and go as you please! Snacks and free T-shirts while supplies last!
The Pizza Wagon Food Truck — Your college experience is not complete without pizza! Come on out for freshly made brick-oven pizza from The Pizza Wagon food truck! Where’s My Classroom? Tours — Nervous about finding a classroom? Pull up your schedule and have an OL show you the classrooms you’ll be in. Dorm Cooking — Learn how to become a top chef in your residence hall! Sponsored by The Wolfington Center, Campus Ministry, and the Cabrini Cupboard (Food Pantry). The first 30 people to arrive get a FREE crock pot! Note: this event is not just for students who live on campus – commuters are welcome, too! Vision Boards — Time to manifest your dreams for the year with a Vision Board! All supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own magazines, photos, or other printouts. Stress Relief and Mindfulness — Transitioning to college can be stressful! Learn some ways to de-stress and stay mindful during difficult times.

Bonfire and S’mores	Upper Athletic Field	7 –9pm	Join us for a final celebration to kick off the semester on a sweet note! Some seating will be available — BYO chair or blanket if you have one! In the event of bad weather, the bonfire will be held on Monday, Aug 28.

Welcome Week is Monday, August 28-Monday, September 4! Full schedule of events will be emailed to all students and posted around campus. Events to look out for include: Pancake Breakfast, Cav Cafe with Brood Coffee Truck, Commuter Student Social, Annual CommUNITY BBQ, Movie on the Lawn, Big Prize Bingo, and more!
