RADNOR, Pa. (Feb. 16, 2011) — “A Meditation on America’s Ordeal by Fire: Religion in/and the Civil War” is the title of author and historian Dr. Randall Miller’s presentation at Cabrini College on Tuesday, March 22.
Dr. Miller is the William Dirk Warren ’50 Sesquicentennial Chair and Professor of History at Saint Joseph’s University, where he has taught since 1972. He has written several books on a variety of subjects, including African-American culture and life, religion, social reform, popular culture, American politics, regional cultures, American diary-keeping, the Civil War and Reconstruction, urban affairs, and ethnic and immigrant history. Dr. Miller earned a master’s degree and a doctoral degree from the Ohio State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Hope College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Miller is this year’s Jolyon Pitt Girard Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at Cabrini College. Founded in 2008, the Scholar-in-Residence Program honors Dr. Jolyon Girard’s 35-year tenure in the Cabrini College History Department. The program brings eminent historians to campus as a way to honor the creativity of teaching, something Dr. Girard personified at Cabrini.
