Event Date: 09/17/2013Event Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PMLocation: Iadarola Center, Hamilton Lecture HallDescription: In observance of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, Cabrini will host a discussion of two important issues relating to the intersection of education and the Constitution. "Educational Rights and the Constitution" This event is free and open to the public. Cabrini students, faculty, and staff from all departments are encouraged to attend. Dr. Sharon Schwarze, Professor and Chair of the Philosophy department, will open with a summary of the Rodriguez v. San Antonio Supreme Court case, which stated that education is not a fundamental right offered under the Constitution. Dr. Schwarze will explain the reasoning behind this case and suggest how it impacts our educational system today. Dr. Jeff Gingerich and Ms. Tara McFalls will then lead a discussion of the recent proposals on higher education suggested by President Obama and what this might mean for Cabrini College in our relationship to federal financial aid.
