Julie Byrne discusses “O God of Players”

Description: On Monday October 8, 2012, Julie Byrne will discuss her book “O God of Players”, the story of basketball pioneers at Immaculata College in the early 1970s who won the first three women's college national championships ever played.
Ten years after the book's publication, she offers further reflections on the book, a related movie—“The Mighty Macs”—and the “Catholic difference” then and now.
Julie Byrne holds the Monsignor Thomas J. Hartman Endowed Chair in Catholic Studies and is currently Associate Professor of Religion. Her current research interests include Catholic historiography and independent Catholicism. In addition to Catholic Studies, Byrne writes and teaches subjects in American religion, from gender and race to method and theory.
