Increasingly, students with special needs are included in regular classes.
Cabrini’s Special Education Certification (PreK-8) program helps teachers develop the professional knowledge and skills to teach effectively in these situations.
This certification also qualifies teachers to work with students with the low-incidence-disabilities population, including those students with multiple disabilities.
The program details the responsibilities to evaluate learners with diverse needs including high incidence and low incidence populations.
The class will investigate methods and instructional procedures for teaching and assessing learners with exceptionalities.
The Cabrini Special Education PreK-8 certificate program will explore the following topics:
Evidence-based and research-validated instructional practices, strategies, and techniques including literacy instruction and communication development for all learners
Understanding and preventing over-representation of diverse students in special education
Fostering parent and teacher collaboration in a special-education setting
Development and implementation of standards-based Individualized Education Programs
Special education laws and policies, positive behavior interventions and techniques
