Cabrini Professor Showcases Italian Ex-Voto Collection at NY Gallery
RADNOR, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2011) – Four dozen rare metal, silver and painted ex-votos – divine votive offerings, usually to saints – are on display at the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute in New York, N.Y. The objects, which date from 1865 to 1959, are from the personal collection of Leonard Norman Primiano, Ph.D., chair and professor of religious studies at Cabrini College.

CRS Middle East Rep Talks About Firsthand Experience of Arab Spring
RADNOR, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2011) – Mark Schnellbaecher, Middle East regional director for Catholic Relief Services (CRS), presents “The Arab Spring: Transitions in the Middle East and North Africa,” on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 1:55 – 3:10 p.m. in Grace Hall Atrium at Cabrini College (610 King of Prussia Road, Radnor). Schnellbaecher will share his recent experiences of working on the ground in Beirut, Egypt and Iraq, helping to provide food, temporary shelter, water and first aid to those affected by violence in the region.

Dr. Bryde Wins Lindback Award for Excellence in Teaching
RADNOR Pa. (June 16, 2011) — Dr. Beverly Bryde, chair and associate professor of education at Cabrini College, received the 2011 Lindback Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award was presented to Dr. Bryde during the College’s 51st Commencement exercises in May.

Peer Mentoring Focus of Two Scholarly Publications
RADNOR, Pa. (Jan. 20, 2011) — An article in the January issue of the scholarly journal BioScience praises Cabrini’s undergraduate research and peer mentoring. The article, “Forging a 21st Century Model for Undergraduate Research,” highlights Cabrini’s participation in the National Genomics Research Initiative (NGRI), and the work of peer mentor Catherine Mageeney ’11.

Dr. Gingerich Appointed Dean of Academic Affairs
RADNOR, Pa. (Nov. 29, 2010) — Dr. Jeffrey Gingerich, associate professor of sociology, has been appointed dean of Academic Affairs at Cabrini College. Dr. Gingerich has served as interim dean of Academic Affairs since July 1.

Professor's Work on Father Divine Selected for National Humanities Workshop

(Oct. 7, 2010) — Dr. Leonard Norman Primiano’s work on the Father Divine Project, an authoritative multimedia study of an American religious movement, was recognized when he was among 12 educators selected to participate in a month-long digital workshop sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Research Institute Taps Faculty to Develop Courses on Biology, Biochemistry

Biology Professor One of 20 Scientists to Complete National Research Program on Improving Education
Dr. David Dunbar, associate professor of biology at Cabrini College, is one of just 20 scientists in the nation to complete an innovative program on helping students learn this complex science. The 20 scholars were the first to complete a year-long research residency to improve undergraduate biology education.

Cabrini College One of Select Group of Theaters to Stage Historic Performance of Laramie Project-10 Years Later (An Epilogue)
RADNOR, Pa. (Sept. 16, 2009) — Cabrini Theater is one of just 100 international venues selected to stage a world premiere performance of The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later (An Epilogue) on Monday, Oct. 12. The 100 theaters will perform in sync with the Tectonic Theater Project premiere in New York's Lincoln Center, scheduled for 8 p.m. A live video feed to all theaters will broadcast the first 20 minutes of the performance, at which time the satellite theaters will conclude the play simultaneously.

CRS President and Norristown School District Superintendent Address Cabrini Grads
Cabrini awarded bachelor's and master's degrees to 980 students in dual ceremonies at the College's 49th Commencement exercises on Sunday, May 17. Kenneth F. Hackett, president of Catholic Relief Services, addressed students earning bachelor's degrees at the morning ceremony. Dr. Janet Samuels, superintendent of the Norristown School District, addressed graduates earning master's degrees in the afternoon ceremony.

The National Science Foundation has awarded a $92,000 grant to Cabrini College to support the project, "Collaborative Research-Watershed Citizenship Learning Community."

Doctor Hedtke to Lecture at Historical Society on Ely Parker
Dr. James Hedtke, chair of the History and Political Science department, will deliver "Ely Parker: One Real American," at the Norwood Historical Society on Thursday, Sept. 25. The lecture is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at 10 West Cleveland Ave. in Norwood.

"When You Vote for President What Happens?" - Dr. Hedtke Delivers Constitution Day Lecture
Dr. James Hedtke, professor of history and political science, presents "What Happens to My Vote for President: the Mysteries of the Electoral College Revealed," on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 12:30 p.m. in the Grace Hall Boardroom. This is the annual Constitution Day lecture, and it is free and open to the public.

Cabrini Receives $180K Pew Grant for Programs on Prisoner Re-entry
The Pew Charitable Trusts has awarded a three-year, $180,000 grant to Cabrini College to support the College's partnership with the borough of Norristown. The grant will help fund and coordinate prisoner reentry services for ex-offenders from Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) returning to the Norristown community. Network partners will include the criminal justice system, social service agencies, and the faith community.

Recent Grad Travels with Faculty and Staff to Mexico to Study Immigration Issues
Eight Cabrini faculty and staff members and Class of 2007 graduate Meghan Hurley traveled to El Paso, Texas and its sister city across the Rio Grande River, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, to study and research aspects of immigration.

Sociology Professor Named Finalist for National Service Award
Dr. Jeff Gingerich, associate professor of sociology at Cabrini College, recently was named one of seven finalists for Campus Compact's national 13th Annual Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service-Learning. Dr. Gingerich, who teaches a joint class of Cabrini students and inmates inside the walls of Montgomery County Correctional Facility, was nominated for his innovative approach to social justice, service-learning, and community-based research and advocacy.
