Praxis exams are the exams required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education of candidates seeking teaching certification.
- All candidates must pass the Praxis I exams (PPST Reading, PPST Writing, and PPST Math). These three tests cover material taught in grades K-12 (before college).
- The Fundamental Subjects Praxis is required of all areas except secondary. It addresses content expected to be mastered by school teachers. Much of the content is covered in the early college courses (history, English, etc.).
- Praxis II exams are specialty tests. Each area of certification (elementary, early childhood, special education, secondary by content area) has its own test.
