The Pennsylvania Teacher Intern Certification Program offers a valid professional certificate that entitles the holder to fill a full-time professional teaching position in a specific certification endorsement area in elementary and secondary schools of Pennsylvania for a period not to exceed three calendar years. Currently, the program is offered in 37 approved colleges and universities in Pennsylvania. To enroll in a teacher intern program, a candidate must possess a minimum of a baccalaureate degree related to the area of certification requested. For example, an individual with a B.S. degree in chemistry may seek chemistry certification.
For more information about this program, contact Dr. Kimberly Arp at 610-902-8324 or kim.arp@cabrini.edu.
Requirements
Candidates for the program must:
- not have any other Pennsylvania Educator Certificate
- have earned a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
- take and pass all related Praxis test, if they have not already done so
- be enrolled in Cabrini College's Graduate Education Program and submit an application, a $50 application fee, college transcripts, and a letter of recommendation from a professor or employer who is familiar with their work
Once these prerequisites are met, Dr. Arp will issue a Letter of Intern Candidacy, which will allow candidates to be hired in an intern program with a school district (e.g. Philadelphia School District, Upper Darby School District, Norristown Area School District). Candidates must then obtain a teaching job offer and will have three years to complete the courses and student teaching. They will then apply for an Intern Teaching Certificate. The intern certificate is issued only for instructional areas; it is not applicable for professionals seeking certification as educational specialists, administrators, or supervisors.
