Undergraduate students who are in the Educational Studies program complete a 9-12 credit, 14-week internship instead of student teaching. The Educational Studies program is not available for students seeking secondary certification nor for post-baccalaureate students.
Internship Placement
The Educational Studies internship has a great deal of flexibility and is coordinated with the Director of Student Teaching to be in line with the student's career goals.
Internship Handbook
Educational Studies students purchase two Internship Handbooks (one for themselves and the second for their cooperating teacher) that define assignments that must be completed during the internship placement. The books can be purchased from the Education Division office.
The handbook includes information about the whole internship experience including the assignments student teachers must complete over the course of their placement. Internship placements are in non-public settings. Students completing internships are not eligible for Pennsylvania teaching certificate.
When to apply for an Internship
Students must apply for an internship at least six months prior to the semester they wish to be placed. Educational Studies students wanting to be placed for a Fall student internship must have their application and accompanying documents submitted by January 30. The spring placement application deadline is May 30.
