Dr. Kimberly Arp
Assistant Professor, Education
With a passion for working with student teachers and mentoring teachers, Dr. Kimberly Arp joined Cabrini's faculty in 2006.
"Cabrini offered not only the opportunity to continue in my career, but it also offers a warm, nurturing environment for my career to grow," says Arp.
Embedded in Arp's teaching philosophy is the belief that every student can learn, given appropriate support and environment. She believes that education should be learner-centered with a focus on students creating their own knowledge and developing individual strengths under the guidance of well-trained, highly competent instructors.
"Part of a quality education is learning how one's talents fit into the greater good and how those talents can be used to make positive change in the world," says Arp.
During her time here, Arp has thrived in Cabrini's welcoming environment. "One of my favorite aspects of Cabrini College is the caring community of faculty and learners." She says this is evident not only in her personal experience but also by taking part in the response of the college community to the needs of other students and faculty.
Arp earned an M.Ed. from Lesley College and a Ph.D. in Education from Texas A&M University. Her research includes mathematics education with a focus on pedagogical practices, and student teaching with an interest in retaining teachers. She and her students have taken part in the Pennsylvania Association of College Teacher Educators Conference and the Education Leadership Forum, and have submitted two grants.
Apart from teaching future educators, Arp teaches Vacation Bible School at her church and helps with the nursery during church services.
She enjoys the outdoors, including camping, canoeing, backpacking, and hiking. She also loves to travel as often as possible. "I love to explore new places," says Arp.
Arp is married and has three children. She and her family moved from Texas to nearby Royersford, Pa. in 2006.
