Ruby Remley's late husband brought her to Cabrini College in 1987. He headed the accounting department at Cabrini, and during his time here, Remley had the opportunity to spend time with the Missionary Sisters and Cabrini's faculty and students. "I was so positively impressed with the strong sense of community and true dedication to the values of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart that, when asked to join the faculty, I was delighted to do so," Remley says.
Remley believes teaching is a collaborative effort between the student and the faculty member. "My teaching approach involves motivating students to not only learn about the subjects taught in the classroom, but to develop a world view, engage in creative thinking, and actively participate in the college and community activities," Remley says. She helps students recognize and understand their value systems and link their values to those of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, with the hope that they will continue to incorporate those values in their work and personal lives.
Remley brought to Cabrini an accomplished roster of experience in the corporate world. Through the course of her career, she worked in brand management at Scott Paper Company and in pharmaceutical marketing research at IMS, a global corporation providing pharmaceutical market intelligence. Additionally, she served as Vice President of Marketing at Lincoln Bank and as Senior Vice President at Alton, Cohen & Naish Advertising Agency.
Remley's commitment to her students can be seen in the classroom, and in the years beyond. She says teaching is a pleasure, and she has great fondness for her students. "It is a joy to watch them enter Cabrini as somewhat bewildered individuals and leave as accomplished men and women," she says. She has kept in touch with many past students, following their progress over the years.
Remley has master's degrees in marketing and management from La Salle and Temple University. Her work has appeared in Marketing News and the Philadelphia Business Journal. She has presented to audiences on a number of topics, including women's participation in management and decision-making positions and starting and running your own business.
In her spare time, Remley serves on the boards of many philanthropic organizations, including Cabrini's Mission Corps, Cabrini Vocation, the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Cancer Society, Valley Forge Girl Scouts of America, and the Special Olympics.
Remley is an intrepid traveler, having explored Asia, eastern and western Europe, the Middle East, the Pacific Rim, the Caribbean, and North, Central, and South America. She regularly attends performances by the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Ballet. She also loves going to the opera and taking in performances on Broadway and in local theaters. A native Philadelphian, she resides in Chester County.
