The Cabrini Dance Team has an unusual “stage” two nights each year: the field during Philadelphia Phillies games at Citizens Bank Park.
On one of those nights—the annual Cabrini Night at the Phillies—the Dance Team takes over the field during the fifth inning to perform in front of up to 43,000 fans.
Cabrini faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni cheer the team on from the stands.
“It feels like we’re celebrities when we’re out on that field,” says Kristie Laychock ’14, captain of the dance team and an education major.
Without fail, the team is joined by an honorary member every year: the Phillie Phanatic.
In 2013, 12 students on the team (and the Phanatic) showed off their moves to “Glowing” by Nikki Williams.
In past years, the team has performed a tribute to Michael Jackson, a ’70s-themed medley, and pop hits from singers such as Kelly Clarkson and Pitbull.
Since 2006, the College annually has held Cabrini Night at the Phillies at the height of the Phillies baseball season.
Every ticketholder receives a Cabrini College/Phillies knit hat, and hundreds of the Cabrini College community sport Cabrini Night at the Phillies T-shirts.
“Cabrini Night at the Phillies is my favorite event every year,” says Jenna LoMenzo ’14, secretary of the dance team and education major.
The Cabrini Dance Team also performs at every Cabrini men’s basketball game; competitions with other dance studios, companies, and colleges and universities; the Norristown Arts Festival; and parades and other events.
In addition, the team helps out at Special Olympics and teaches dance to underprivileged children.
