A graduate of Cabrini College (B.S., Chemistry and B.A., English & Communications), Joel Zazyczny is a scientist, innovator, and business leader with more than 20 years of experience in chemicals and industrial minerals.
Zazyczny is a published scientist who holds six patents, authored a chapter in the PVC Handbook of Chemistry (Hanser Gardner Publications, 2005), and has authored and co-authored more than 20 technical papers and articles.
He is currently executive vice president with Gelest, Inc., a privately held specialty chemical manufacturer of silicon and metal-organic materials serving separations and diagnostics, pharmaceutical, micro-electronic metallization and dielectrics, optical materials, industrial polymeric materials, surface-treated micro‑particles and particle development, alternative energy, and cosmetics.
Zazyczny is responsible for managing and leading the overall business operations to include strategic development, product management, technical service, quality control, marketing, public relations, purchasing, regulatory affairs and quality assurance, global distribution, and customer service.
Previously, he was division vice president marketing, sales and business development with IMERYS Performance Minerals N.A., a corporate officer of the Performance Minerals Division responsible for leading marketing, new product development, sales, product management, and strategic efforts for a $360 million Minerals Business Unit of a $3 billion Global Minerals Company.
While at Imerys, he was also a member of the Global Performance Growth Initiative Steering Committee, and antecedent positions as director of marketing & new product development and applications manager, Polymers R&D.
His previous positions include equity partner and vice president at Delta Minerals, LTD, concurrent with technical director at Polar Minerals; corporate development-technical service senior applications at Chemist Huls America; and analytical chemist at DNAP Technologies Corp.
Zazyczny is a former member of the Cabrini College Alumni Association Board of Directors (1995-2001, 2012-13).
He is a current member of the American Chemical Society, Electrochemical Society (director 2008-11), IUPAC, SOCMA, and past member of the Pulverized Minerals Division NSSGA (chairman elect 2006), Society of Plastics Engineers, Polymer Modifiers and Additives Group SPE, (director, education chair, TPC chair 1994-2002), Vinyl Siding Institute, and Tappi (Pulp & Paper Institute).
Along with his undergraduate degrees, Zazyczny studied for a master’s in chemistry at St. Joseph’s University, completed executive leadership training, as well as Kepner Tregoe Certification, Karass Negotiation Certification, New Product Development Certification, PDMA, Strategic Pricing Certification, AMA.
He and his wife KellyAnn reside in Buckingham, Pa., with their three children Aubreylyn, Anneliese, and Aydin, and are founding donors and active members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church.
